misplaced feelings.

Is it still love, if it doesn’t feel right?

We drove to the west coast to see him, since he had yet another show/event to perform at.  I waited patiently when it was over for his fans to slowly wander away after he gracefully accepted compliments and took pictures with everyone.  I wasn’t even sure if he would see me.  Or remember me, for that matter.

Soon, the crowds dispersed and my heart beat a little faster.  I stood there, frozen, just staring at him from a distance feeling that after waiting so long, it suddenly felt too soon.

He must have felt me staring at him, because soon his eyes stared back into mine, twinkling, curious, and as always, full of wonder.  Somehow, the distance between us disappeared and I threw my arms around him crying out, “please, just hug me.”  I could feel it, he was a little unsure, but I felt him breathe me in and then hug me tighter.  I could see my friends in the distance watching with little smiles on their faces, like they knew everything would be okay.  But something inside me still didn’t feel right.  We didn’t separate for a long time and when we finally did, we somehow ended back in another hug.  There were no words to be said, really, except for me weakly offering more compliments that he’s already heard over and over again.

“I didn’t even know you were doing Broadway now!”  I didn’t tell him.  One of our friends must have called him, or he heard it on the news, or something.  It just didn’t come from me.

“Well, I’m getting there,” I said with a small laugh, not daring to reveal that I was doing it all for him, so that he would come back to New York and stay there with me.

Something still doesn’t feel right, despite how genial he looked that day.  I don’t remember anything after that, but the pictures tell me that he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.  There’s another picture of me sitting on the ground in a white dress with purple and yellow flowers in my bouquet,  looking up at him adoringly as he holds out his hand to help me up.

But I can’t make any sense of it, why I can’t remember anything between then and now.  It constantly leaves me with a sense of foreboding, like there’s something that somebody is hiding from me, but I can’t tell what.  And all it leaves behind, is a larger sense of longing.

the hunger games.

The Hunger Games was hosted by New York this year, and we were all thrilled.  Even members outside of the community decided to partake in it this year.

We drove off to the arena, which was somewhere deep in Long Island, where suburbia demands cookie-cutter houses interjected by long stretches of woods.  I was in the back passenger seat with some of the boys outside of the community from New Jersey.  I’m not very close to them, except for one, and I spent majority of the time cracking jokes at his expense, just because I could.  His friends thought it was funny.  I only stopped at one point to exclaim at the double double-rainbows [that’s TWO double rainbows for ya] that appeared on our left side.  Except nobody seemed to share my excitement.

We communicated with the other participants in the other cars via walkie-talkie and it was agreed upon that I be partnered up with Kris for the missions.  It was a smart match.

We finally arrived at our homebase: a 3 story house that was turned into a motel of sorts, with a broken down arcade in the back and a huge terrace up on the second floor.

My parents, the coordinators of the New York region, came in once all the New York participants arrived and explained that while this house was homebase, our sleeping quarters were 7 blocks away.  We looked at each other in shock— these blocks were maybe half a mile long each.  It was going to be a mission on itself just to get there.

Some hours passed for preparations before our Mission Volunteer called me over to tell me that our mission would start in 4 hours [at 4am].  As the hour approached, Kris and I got ready with our guns and our camouflage uniforms, not really sleeping at all.

As soon as 4AM hit, we ran out of the house, turned right, and started running in the direction of our sleeping quarters.  The roads in this suburbia didn’t run in a grid pattern, but rather a constant undulating cosine, which made it all the more challenging to get by the 7 blocks.  We were assaulted many times, by water balloons, paintballs, and even decoyed Harry Potter wizards.

We eventually got to the houses numbered in the 400s, where we thought our quarters would be, but nobody was in the house.  After prodding about for 10 minutes we realized we were only 4/7ths of the way there and continued to run.

We must have gotten attacked again, because I woke up in my bed, and I have no recollection of the rest of the mission.  I don’t even know who won the Games.

let’s just say.

I’ve been left unsettled.

gamemaker.

Like everything else in Panem, the government has claimed control over my life— me, a Capitol citizen.  I don’t know how they did it, I thought I was safe under the radar, but they grabbed me and pulled me into their sick twisted games.

I am now the head Gamemaker for the 75th Hunger Games.

I never wanted to use my skills as a designer for evil.  For death.  For manslaughter.  But here I am now, being forced to create the arena that will be the sole cause of the death for 23 of my brothers and sisters.

There’s no way to escape.

my other half.

My AU (alternate universe) has been pretty quiet lately.  It either means that I haven’t been getting enough sleep, or my alter ego is purposely hiding from me right now.

=(

I lied.  Check out my crazy here.
